Green Tips for Dummies 30-34

30. According to the US EPA the Smart Car is not so smart on gas believe it or not. They look cool, but 36 mpg is not impressive.  If you really want to save on gas get a motor cycle.

31. Subscribe to your news paper on line and cancel the door step delivery.  Check out the WSJ iphone app for example - it is free!

32. Recycle other’s business cards.  What??? Seriously buy the iphone app called SnapCard (Lite or Heavy up to you). SnapCard allows you to take a picture of the business card and the rest is magic.  The software extracts the contents from the image and puts them in the correct fields to create a new contact record in your iphone’s database.  It is unreal!  You can then politely return the card and say, “Thanks for your card - you may recycle it with another:)”

33. Take paper out of your life.  Seriously it is 2009 going on ‘10.  Do you really need paper for anything?  Take notes in Evernote.  Review your power point slides on your machine.  Take your laptop to meetings or use your mobile devise.  I just have a hard time with the need for paper in the office.  Try it you will be surprised.  I’m going on year 3 and it has not been very difficult.

34. Limit your monitor count to one - unless you are in the digital design space or an air traffic controller you don’t need more than one monitor to view your Word and Excel.  You are over consuming electronics which are hell on earth to manufacture + you are sucking more power than your eyes can keep up with.  Like I said there are exceptions.

Nation’s Music Snobs Protest Predictable Use Of Metallica, Pantera To Torture Prisoners
WASHINGTON—Amid continued reports detailing the CIA’s use of loud music to torture detainees at Guantánamo Bay, pop-culture elitists from across the country gathered in the nation’s capital Monday to protest the uninspired song selections employed in the brutal treatment of inmates.
“To remain silent about the abhorrent methods used to interrogate alleged enemy combatants would be a betrayal of the ideals we hold most dear,” said New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones, a spokesperson for the loose coalition of music snobs. “I mean, ‘Enter Sandman,’ from Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album? Really? Not to say there isn’t some classic stuff on the torture playlist, but even my 12-year-old nephew would choose something a little more unexpected than Nine Inch Nails to shatter an utterly demoralized man’s already tenuous grip on reality.”
